Lombard Street - Crookedest Street in the World

Lombard Street

Known as “the crookedest street in the world,” Lombard Street is a must-see for visitors. This famous section of road between Hyde and Leavenworth has 8 sharp turns on a steep slope. The turns, called “switchbacks,” were created in the 1920s to help traffic descend the steep incline.

Located in the fashionable Russian Hill district, Lombard Street offers elegant Victorian mansions, shops and restaurants surrounded by beautiful flowers. The walk also offers a nice view of the bay, with stairways on either side of the street for pedestrians.

From Lombard, visitors can get to the Golden Gate Bridge, Coit Tower, the Marina and more.

Getting Here
